The Lord of the Rings "Ring" was created by Thorkild Hansens from Jens Hansens Jewelry, one of Nelson's contemporary jewelry designers. For the film they needed over 40 variations of the ring which was scaled for different scenes and sized to suite the various owners of the Ring. The one seen in the prologue of the movie spinning and turning through the air has a diameter of 8 inches. This massive ring was made of steel and then plated. We went to this jeweler to see the original rings for ourselves. While we were there a man was ordering his wedding rings with their names written inside in Elvish.
To fully experience a town we usually like to play a round of golf at their local golf course. Nelson Golf Course, another "country" course was fun and challenging. The most unique thing about it was that they had varieties of motor bikes that either pulled the carts or had the bags right on them.
We loved this sign showing the Nelson Golf Club dress code...
This weekend was also the New Zealand Nationals Contest for Kite Surfing. The bay was filled with 100 contenders for different division championships. The kites were beautiful colors, the wind was up and the bay was filled with color.
We're catching up on a few movies here. Saw "The Queen",
"Borat" and "The Prestige". When you buy your movie tickets you are given assigned seats. And yes, they do sell really delicious popcorn too.
